MISSISSIPPI MASS CHOIR
It Remains to Be Seen
Malaco, 1993

The windows of heaven must have opened widely when Malaco Records released the breathtaking It Remains to Be Seen album in 1993. The sophomore project of the Mississippi Mass Choir couldn't have been released at a better time - it would be the last live recording documented by their imperialistic founder Frank Williams. But the album serves up a nice set of dynamic gospel including the contagious sounds of David Curry's melodic title cut, the energetic youthful tones of "I Get Excited" and the encouraging soulfulness in the Walter Hawkins contribution "Hold On Old Soldiers (which features a momentous duet featuring Hawkins and Williams on lead vocals). The album's strongest highlight surrounded the popular radio single and highly-emotional "Your Grace and Mercy," which has been covered by a number of artists including the Jackson Southernaires and Harold Rayford. The song's simple approach of gratefulness surrounding the nostalgic verses of "Amazing Grace" remains a testament of the traditional gospel choir singing from the '90s. Other sensational moments include Milton Biggham's contemporary-styled "He's Able" and the eight-minute Jerry Smith ballad "Yes." "Why We Don't Rap/Amazing Grace," another album highlight, features Williams having a conversation with two young lads about why the best-selling choir won't get down with hip-hop. Their response is quite campy on the surface, but it's a funny moment and is interceded with a soulful chorus of "Amazing Grace." It Remains to Be Seen, which reached number one on the gospel charts, stands as one of the surviving artifacts of traditional gospel from this period.

Charisma Reports on King of Pop's Salvation Claims
After creating a sensational buzz on Facebook and MySpace, Charisma Magazine decided to bite back after talking with gospel greats Sandra & Andrae' Crouch concerning a recent meeting they had with Michael Jackson before his untimely death. The Crouchs stated that accusations concerning them leading Jackson to Christ were "incorrect and absolutely not true." The two did talk with Jackson about the opportunity to record two songs for his next project. The media frenzy started on the social network Facebook after gospel duo Mary Mary posted a statement claiming Jackson "accepted Christ into his heart" on last Friday.
