SINCE THE POSTING OF THE TYE TRIBBETT ALBUM REVIEW
on PRAYZEHYMNOnline.com (written by editor-in-chief J. Matthew Cobb), a large chunk of traffic ranging from a 20% to 35% increase began to shift towards our counter. We took inventory of this and evaluated where much of the traffic stemmed from. While most of the visitors accessed the review from our website, the second largest link or website to contribute large amounts of viewing was traced to a Tye Tribbett Message Board. We decided to take a trip to the board and thought to give an observation of the activities there that surrounded the "buzz". To our shocking conclusion, we noticed hateful remarks and opinions that would have scared a beast to a hidden cave.

And of course, people are entitled to their own personal opinions. But opinions should be respected and, when given, should be respectful.

In our mailbox alone, we have had several emails that deserve a great deal of attention. Instead of replying in private, we decided to post the emails on the website so that people can discern a heavy problem that our staff here encounters alot of times. Before read the posted emails, I advise our readers to carefully view the recent Tye Tribbett album review of "Victory Live ". This will help in understanding a few misunderstood qualities that we inherit when we review any album. One of the strongest misconceptions that readers tend to address the most is that we have "beef" or hatred towards the artist. Never is that the case - instead we seriously focus on the content, quality and the progressive nature of the project and the artistry of the artist.

I also decided to post the "hatemails" here because they were lengthy and all follow on the exact same lines. We just hope that fans of Tye Tribbett can understand that even the toughest of negative criticism will come, and this will hopefully enable him to evaluate certain choices, avoid the repeating of failing decisions and will help him to produce a better project in the near future. This is the purpose of a critic's opinion. In the words of Roger Ebert, famous film critic, "the job of a critic is to express an opinion. If critics rescued themselves from reviewing anything on which they held an opinion, there would be no criticism."

Now let's begin to open up the mailbag, shall we.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Hello My name is Bro Markise Hicks.

I am a 21 year old Young Person Who Desires to Serve God and Sincerly Loves the People of God. Especially those who Give all to do his will.
Now along with all that I want You Know also that I am A big big Supporter of Greater Anointing Ministries (Not just a Mere Fan) Support this Ministry With all that I can because I beleive that this is one of The Only Ministries in the Industry That really Is representing the Kingdom of God. Thats Why I am Emailin U right Now. I read your Review and Im so aware that we are entitled to Our own Opions. Thats All fine. But However I your Review Really Offended the Spirit Of God In Me. (Understand there Is One Spirit) I don't want to Go into Much of How I feel about Your review, But Just Know this...

Minster Tyrone Tribbett In "No Way Attempted to Cross Over Into bigger BUCKS" Let me let u in on a big Secret. This Man Has been anointed to do For years. "Bless the Lord", "Hallelujah 2 Ur Name" And "Alright" "Sinking"  To name A few are SOngs that TYE AND GA has Been Singing 4 Years!!!! " I have a choir we been Singing Bless the Lord and Alright for the Past 2 years!!! This was Just the Season that God Realeased Tye To realease to The World!!!! " Thats God Ordainded Music. And "No Other Choice" was a song That was Inspired By the Holy Ghost after Tye Experinced A Period In his Life where He lost Pillars in His Life. And God Gave him That song To Minister to So Many People Who are experincing the Same thing.

If U read the CD JACKET it says In Bold Letters that This Is KINGDOM MUSIC. The Kingdom of God Is Only In the Spirit. So This Music Is not Going to Satisfy Your Flesh at all. Its only gonna grab the Attention of your spirit. Tye Knew when he Put this CD together that It was Not For People to Get Hype off of." Tye Made It open For the spirit Of God.To Capture the Listiener. Unlike alot Of these Who make music and Still under the Influence of Homosexuality and Perversion and those are the artist who U want to give an A TO!!!!

My advice to U my brother, Find the Spirit Of God for Yourself. Time out for Sowing into the Flesh!!!!
The bible Declares For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.

Its time out for What Makes People Flesh arouse Thats why the Church is Shaky Now!!! Understand that God is Doing HIS Thing Now, Because Christ is Soon to return. We Can't get into this Hip Hop R & B thing,  Neither  Church traditionalism. But we Must SEEK his Kingdom For real!!!! And Support Those who are really trying to Bring Forth the Kingdom of God!!!!

But Anyway Don't mean to trouble You. But Wanted to let You Know that Your Reveiw was Disrepectful To THE CALLED OF GOD, AND THOSE ANOINTED TO DO HIS WORK!!!!
God Bless

Oh and four Your Infomation "Victory Live" has Four and a Half stars and Sold Out In Stores everywhere all on the First day!!!!

God bless

Markise Hicks

EDITOR'S RESPONSE: I want to state that "Victory" was not sold out in the stores down here. Plenty of copies were on the shelves when I looked at my local Wal-Mart music section. I am glad to know that you are very proud and excited about Tye Tribbett's recent album release, and I am sorry to know that my critical analysis bothered "the Spirit of God in you". It didn't bother me at all when I read my comments. I don't think I fully analyzed the project from a mind and flesh point-of-view, instead I decided to give an overall, balanced viewpoint that covered all aspects of the album (songwriting, creative progress, production, vocals, etc.) and to do it in a very professional way. I am greatly appalled to read that you are labeling the artists that have received A's as being under the influence of homosexuality and perversion. I really think those words are very opinionated and seriously divisive. Not many artists bear an A rating here, but those that recently received an A grade (Youthful Praise, Rev. Timothy Wright, Ron Winans, Donald Lawrence, A&M Gospel Choir, James Grear, Yolanda Adams, Thomas Whitfield, Jonathan Nelson) would be highly offended by such remarks. And as a Tye Tribbett spokesperson, I don't think he would appreciate you sending out such remarks. Plus for you to say my review is "disrespectful to the called of God and those anointed to do his work" would make those that view the project like myself feel as if we are misguided. Critical feedback is not evil, my brother. I truly feel your passion about the music Tribbett has recorded and I'm glad you were blessed by it, but musically it is highly believable to state that "Victory" lacks the spark, drive and the easy-listening vibe that "Life" bears.

WAKE ME UP B4 YOU "GO-GO"

To the reviewers of the above mentioned CD and artist (and to those who approved this rating before letting it on the web),

I want to first start off by letting you know that I don't have a problem with one expressing their opinion, but there should be a different way in which Christians express themselves. I felt that your review was a direct and personal attack on this particular MAN OF GOD, note the caps- bold - italics and underline.

There are some particular things that stand out most as I recap the review, the songs in which you referenced Tye did to open up his marketing stating, "but it feels as if Tribbett desires too hard to crossover to the bigger bucks" what a horrible thing to say about someone. This is supposed to be a review about the CD not the Character of the ARTIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(note the extensive use of exclamation marks) Furthermore, if Tye was trying to make more money then I would have not be able to attain my copy of the CD for less than 10 dollars.

The writer of the review seems to be speaking on the behalf of Tye's fans, which I think is totally unfair. This is not the upset of 2006 for me, I felt that my patient wait was well worth it, so please don't tell me what I feel and don't feel. I am not sure if the reviewer has ever seen Tye MINISTER but the way he ministers is very different from your average person. He is not mimicking anyone or biting any ones style, in fact you could say it's opposite. It really seems as though you don't like Tye as a person, making constant reference towards they way he worships, i.e. screaming. That's just Tye and his fans know that it's a part of what makes him who he is, what makes us love his genuine person.

Although, I do disagree with the actual grade the review gave this project, this is not the intent of this email. I just want to reiterate that if this is supposed to about the music, with no anointing, praise, worship, and actual words or content (which are all related in every song) then it should be just about that, not the man himself. You don't know what Tye's motives are (which is to represent the Kingdom of God), you don't even know Tye so you have no right to say what he is and isn't. You are walking a thin line with this website anyway, between commenting and judging, you might want to reevaluate what your soul intentions are and pray that they are taking you in the right direction.

Just my review of the review!

For your reference, from a person born and raised in DC (the home of go-go), "Victory" isn't hip-hop, it's go-go, something I think a music reviewer should already know...where is your accreditation???????????(note the question marks, because I have no idea) Yes go-go is a subset of hip-hop, but it has a different name because it’s a different style of music, if it was hip-hip it wouldn’t be called go-go. The concept is elementary but I just didn’t think the reviewer got it so I wanted to make it plain.

Thank you so much.

Eboni M. Gross

EDITOR'S RESPONSE: Let me set the record straight. I have nothing against Tribbett and G.A. Not at all. Nor do I have anything against the artists that received a negative review. Instead, I do have a problem with problems. And if a project contains that for me, I am careful to evaluate that and point it out in my reviews. My comment on Tribbett's desire to crossover to bigger bucks (on the song "Hallelujah To Your Name") was birth out of my personal feelings. Notice I stated that "it feels" before that comment was made: which justifies my reasons for being a mysterious interpretation of my feelings. I review gospel music, and I know that even though most gospel artists make a substantial amount of money and a good living doing gospel music, Contemporary Christian, the pop-version of Gospel, is a stronger way to create a crossover appeal. Tye Tribbett's intentions could be just that. No one knows that but him and God, but I have no problem saying my opinion of a person's actions. It's just me using the spirit of discernment.

The marketing strategy the music industry uses to discount projects for $9 or $10 per item is a creative way to push album unit sales up. Billboard, for instance, does not look at the estimated value of an item to determine chart success, instead they are looking for the grand total of units sold. Make a product cheaper, the consumer buys more. This is a creative strategy used in the industry. The higher on the charts he is, the more visible he is and the longer a music label will keep interest in him. This is how the business works.

I understand you are a fan. I'm proud to hear that. But be a fan for God first and foremost. I am sure some will not agree with my review, but to tell you the truth, people were expecting much more from this album release. It is a little disappointing for those that expected a step-up from "Life" [a brilliant album, I must say]. Alot on "Victory Live" will not be played on radio, because of the loudness, screaming, and how the songs are formatted and much of these songs won't make it into the repetoires of churches, community choirs and groups. I totally understand that Tribbett's character may be that of him screaming and shouting over a track, but most music-conscious individuals normally do not accepted such behavior. It just can be a bit too much.

Your statements below alarmed me:
The writer of the review seems to be speaking on the behalf of Tye's fans, which I think is totally unfair. This is not the upset of 2006 for me, I felt that my patient wait was well worth it, so please don't tell me what I feel and don't feel...It really seems as though you don't like Tye as a person, making constant reference towards they way he worships, i.e. screaming. That's just Tye and his fans know that it's a part of what makes him who he is, what makes us love his genuine person.

I do not hate Tye at all. If I hated him, the review would have been far worse. But an review of a project should be just that. And I believe I did just that. As for "Victory Live" being an upset in 2006, I was stating that the industry will be disappointed by the monotonous flow this album captures. It's very unevened, too busy and very difficult to listen to with all of the abrupt musical changes. While over four successful singles made it to radio from "Life", "Victory Live" will probably be good to have two. Sadly, there's not much impressive here compared to "Life" and that is the point I strived to make. I really didn't understand the last part of that paragraph, I guess you were quick in your typing.

I do not think I am walking a thin line with the PRAYZEHYMNOnline.com website. I know God is well pleased and my soul is at peace...and furthermore, I am not the only website online that gives bad reviews for projects. You may want to check other websites such as ChristianityToday.com or Nuthinbutgospel.com

I am very much aware of "go-go" music. It is a local sound birthed in the DC area, and was accepted majorly from a national point-of-view on Chuck Brown & the Soul Searchers "Bustin' Loose" (1979) project. This style, in which Brown created, was his way to avoid doing disco music, which was much more appealing to the immediate public at the time. The title cut may have been a way to dodge the disco craze, but it was still a form of funk music. Alot of music critics would have overlooked the go-go genre from the song "Victory" since there are not many popular documentations of this genre, except for E.U's "Doin' The Butt" which was a minor hit on pop charts in the mid 1990s. I didn't bother to putting "go-go" in the review for several reasons, but I thank you for bringing up that point.

But if you recall in the Tye Tribbett review, I mention that the song, "Victory", not only is hip-hop spiced, but it contains "crunk funk". Funk music is what evoked the creation of go-go. Also, for you to ask me where is my accreditation: wow! Where's your accreditation to even question my accreditation? I doubt most album reviews of this single will remember "go-go", unless they are from or have been influenced by the local music scene in D.C.

SHORT AND SWEET

To whom it may concern I respect your opinion about the Tye Tribbetts Victory CD, but I totally disagree.  That CD is so annointed that even trying to put a grade on something that God has anointed is to be little what he did at that recording and what he is doing in homes at this minute.  But as I said, we all are entitled to our own opinion.  We've got the Victory, what about YOU? An Encourager of the Body of Christ.

Marcus England

EDITOR'S RESPONSE: I'm glad you are enjoying the project and respect your views regarding mine. I'm sorry that I didn't enjoy the album, after three listens, like you have. I did like "Victory" [the song], but not much else. I am so thankful that your email was done in good taste, unlike the others I read. God Bless you.

REVELATIONS CHAPTER UMPTEENTH

I went to a web site today called prayzehymnonline.com, I went there because my brother quisto told me about it, so I took a sneak peak.

When I go there I saw that Tye's new CD you know VICTORY had a "D" as a review grade. As I continue you reading, my holy ghost began to get charged, and I said to myself "now your holy ghost has never gotten like this, especially over a musical artist, what's up with that" But I continued reading.

NOW before I go on allow me to share a portion of my testimony, I was one that didn't get caught up in people, especially music artist because of what I "know" about the majority of them. SO when Tye and GA burst on the seen (to me) I said ok that's what's up a new group, but I also said, aint nothing different then anything I haven't seen. I WAS NOT A FAN, I don't care what you say im overcoming myself right now. Everyone around me was getting hype about Tye this and Tye that, and I for one was not use to anyone getting that crazy over an artist, so I began to tell my friends and mainly my bro quisto chill out cuz I don't want you looking at him as an idol. You know how we do well pay to go see a group before we pay our tithes, so I was pretty much warning them about that. TO be honest it wasn't until I heard Tye preach that I actually started to change my mind ( because my motto is YOU CANT SING ABOUT NOTHING YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT, HELLO) But when I heard him preach ya'll my whole world was flipped upside down, then when this CD came out I was like this man is a kingdom Lt. on his way to maybe being a general, DING DONG PROPHESY!!!!! Which encouraged the name change from apostolicpreacha to kingdompreacha (cause we got alot of apostolics without a clue of the kingdom) ****wait only I can say that because im apostolic *****

Now back to this review as I read this review my holy ghost was talking to me and he said, yea you all are fans but whose praying, yea we go to concert after concert but whose going to the throne for TYE and GA. When Dr. Kenny died (RIP) we were in GODS face praying, lets not forget.

So I got on this MB tonight after the holy ghost told me to get out of my bed at 1:37 in the morning and told me to tell all of us, lets get back to prayer for TYE, lets get back in the gap. Yea 1 can chase a thousand but guess what 2 can chase 10, and how can we walk together except we agree. Its time to set our minds on things above and begin to pray. IF we really love this man of GOD so much, START PRAYING!!!!!!!!

OK I FEEL THE HOLY GHOST NOW!!!!!

FIRST LETS GET OUR LIVES TOGETHER SO ALL THAT THIS MAN OF GOD IS DOING IS NOT IN VAIN. AND THEN LETS START PRAYING FOR HIM. THE ENEMY DESIRES TO SIFT HIM AS WHEAT, BUT THOSE WHO ARE SPIRITUAL RESTORE SUCH A ONE!!!! MY GOD NOW IS THE TIME FOR REAL SPIRITUAL WARFARE, THE ENEMY IS GOING TO TRY TO BRING CONFUSION, PAIN, DISCOURAGEMENT, WORRY, BUT I KNOW I COME AGAINST THAT IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST I SERVE!!!!!!!!! OOOOOOOOOOO DEATH WHERE WHERE WHERE IS YO STING GRAVE WHERE'S YOUR VICTORY!!!!!

IS IT ANY BODY HERE THAT IS GOING TO STAND UP AND SAY I GOT YOU BACK TYE, IM PRAYING FOR YOU, IM LAYING ON MY FACE FOR YOU, IM PRAISING FOR YOU. WHOSE THERE HELLLLLLOOOOO, AIN TALKING ABOUT ANOTHER CONCERT PRAY, NOPE NOT A DVD PRAY, NOT A CD PRAY NOT AN AUTOGRAPH PRAY!!!!!!

BECAUSE IF I SEE ANOTHER DEMON LIKE THIS DUDE WHO IS PUTTING REVIEWS LIKE THIS UP ABOUT KINGDOM MUSIC, MY FRIEND DOSENT EVEN HAVE A CLUE WHAT HE JUST DONE!!!!!!!

AND I PROPHESY EVEN AS EZEKIEL DID TO THE WIND!!!!! I PROPHESY THAT BECAUSE OF THIS PEOPLE ARE GOING TO GET THE CD JUST TO SEE IF WHAT HE SAID IS TRUE, AND THEY ARE GOING TO GET DELIVERED, FAMILIES HEALED, SICK HEALED, CHILDERN SAVED, FINANCIAL HARDSHIPS GONE, IN THE NAME OF JESUS!!!!

YOU MESSED UP WHEN YOU MESSED WITH GODS ANOINTED!!!!!!

ILL DANCE RIGHT IN YOU FACE, I GOTTA GO CAUSE IM BOUT TO GO CRAZY IN PRAISE, HA LE LU JAH!!!!!!! PEACE.

EDITOR'S RESPONSE: I had to pull this one off of the Tye Tribbett message board. I don't know how a post like this made it through inspections from the moderator. But anyway, they just called me "demonic"! And after viewing a few others that are or were closely linked to the PRAYZEHYMN Fellowship, speaking also in this same tone, blew me away. I've been called many things, but now add "demonic" to the list. Some one else posted this in response to this same message: Tye and GA have sure gone to a WHOLE 'NOTHER LEVEL, and Satan's whole job is to KILL, STEAL, And DESTROY. He's doing his part, let's do ours. I never knew PRAYZEHYMNOnline was being operated by Satan. The only real reason why I viewed the messages on Tye's Message Board is because I was checking to see where the increase of traffic came from, and the a good percentage came from his board. I wanted to check it out...and there you have it. Alot of bad flack. Amazingly, I did see some good reports and alot of people agree that the project was not as impressive as "Life". I was pleased to read that much. To conclude, I am not a member of Tye's Message Board, the PRAYZEHYMN Fellowship is big enough and takes a lot of time to moderate. I barely have no time on my hands.
